Kerala Multi Adventure – 12 Days

Kerala Multi Adventure tour is for those seeking a light adventure activities based tour. It includes Trekking and Camping in the hills and forests of Munnar, Jungle walks inside the deeper forests of Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary accompanied by armed forest guards , Wildlife Safari and Bamboo Rafting in the Periyar Lake and Backwater Houseboat tour, Cycling and Kayaking along the Alleppey Backwaters.

 

ITINERARY

Trekking, Cycling, Kayaking, Wildlife Safari and Backwater Tour (11n / 12d)

Day 1 : Fort Cochin : Arrive in Cochin and transfer to stay in Fort Cochin. Later explore the views of Fort Cochin including the Jew Street, Jewish Synagogue, Dutch Museum and Chinese fishing nets. If interested one can see the Kathakali ( traditional dance form of Kerala ) performance in the evening. Overnight in Fort Cochin.

Day 2: Cochin – Munnar :  After breakfast leave for Munnar. On way stop at Cheeyapara and Vallara Waterfalls. See the vast expanses of tea and spice plantations as we cross over to the hill country. Late afternoon visit the Tea Museum and in the evening one can explore the town and shop for spices and tea for which the town is famous for. A trip to the Tata Tea Museum can provide a first hand knowledge about various stages of tea processing and production of tea as well as the history of tea in Munnar. Overnight at Munnar cottage stay / homestay.

Day 3 – Munnar – Trekking
Today we start our two day trek to Meesapulimala or Tiger Moustache Mountain, the second highest mountain in South India. Trek starts from Silent Valley Estate located at about 22 Kms from Munnar. Light trek through Tea Plantations, Grandis Plantations, Pine forest and  Grass lands to Camp at Rhodo Valley at 2325 Mtrs(7673 ft).

Day 4 – Munnar – Trekking
Today you trek for about 6 – 8 hours to the peak of Meesapulimala at 2663 Mtrs (8788 feet) through grasslands and tea plantations and back by late afternoon. By evening back to Munnar. Overnight at Munnar.

Day 6 – Munnar to Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
After breakfast we leave for Thekkady ( Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary ) and arrive by afternoon. Later take the evening Wildlife Safari. The Wildlife Safari at Periyar is conducted in the forest department boats in the Periyar Lake. Visitors can see the wildlife on the banks of the lake. Most common sightings are of wild boars, spotted deers, sambar deers, bisons, wild dogs and a wide range of birds. If you are lucky you could also spot a wild cat as Periyar is a Tiger Reserve. Evening visit and explore the town if interested. Overnight at Thekkady ( Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary )

Day 7 – Periyar –  Trekking and Bamboo Rafting
This is a dawn-to-dusk range hiking and rafting program through some of the richest forest tracts of Periyar Tiger Reserve conducted by the forest department. Starting at 8 am from the boat landing, a mosaic of habitats will be traversed before the party gets into rafts made of bamboos.
The forests are rich in bird life and arboreal animals like giant squirrel and Nilgiri langur. Rafting lasts for about three hours and one gets a panoramic view of forest-clad hills reflected on the lake. Animals like elephant, gaur and sambar are sighted keeping close to the edges of the lake.The team hikes back to the boat landing by about 5 pm. An armed guard and 4 guides will accompany a maximum of 10 tourists. Tea, snacks and packed lunch will be served en route. This package is an excellent opportunity for semi-serious nature lovers to feel the beauty of nature from up close. Overnight at Thekkady ( Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary ).

Day 8 – Periyar to Alleppey Backwaters
After breakfast visit a spice plantation and see the different kinds of spices grown here like cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, coffee, tea, pepper, cocoa etc. In the spice plantation tour you will also be told about life cycle of the different spices from planting to harvesting and processing. Later leave for Alleppey and by afternoon arrive and check into a beautiful cottage stay right on the backwaters. Laze and enjoy the stay and take a village tour in the evening. Overnight at Alleppey home stay.

Day 9 – Alleppey Backwaters  – Cycling
After breakfast headout for a 40 kms biking trip around Alleppey. On this tour we head out to the church town of Edathua whose folks are ardent followers of St George. Edathua is in the
beautiful Kuttanad region where paddy fields are separated by small rivers. Our route takes us on roads with backwaters and paddy-fields on either side. Coconut palms all along give you
hopes of meeting a toddy tapper. Lunch is served at the home of a Syrian-Christian who’d be glad to talk about miraculous happenings in the country-side.Back to homestay and overnight at
Alleppey.

Day 10 – Backwaters – Kayaking
Day for Kayaking in the Alleppey Backwaters. Go on a full day or half day Kayaking experience. The real backwaters life can be seen from your kayak in the smaller canals that crisscross the waterways, where the large houseboats are unable to go. See the everyday life of the people living by the canals going about farming, fishing and trading on the backwaters. Overnight at Alleppey Home stay.

Day 11 – Alleppey Backwaters – Houseboat
Check into the houseboat by noon and enjoy the views and experience the life along the backwaters from the comfort of the houseboat. Enjoy the views and the sunset along the backwaters. If interested one can explore and take walks in the fields and villages along the backwaters and visit one of the toddy bars to sample some spicy sea food and toddy ( local alcoholic drink made from coconut palm ). The houseboat will be docked for the night. Overnight in houseboat.

Day 12 – Back to Cochin
After breakfast transfer back to Cochin or drop off at Alleppey. End of tour.
